Meet the Amazing Humans Behind Our Partner Pickup Locations

Did you know that you can pick up your treats at a cute macaron bakery or boba shop?

A few months ago, we had a small but mighty idea. What if, instead of casually handing you a bag of treats out of a purple van in a parking lot, we partnered with a small business that already has a cute storefront? Our first “partner pickup” location in collaboration with an adorable bakery was a smash hit! So much so that what started as a test grew to several partner pickup locations, and we’re on the lookout for more. It’s heartwarming, because it’s yet another way to support small businesses. When you place an order through Pastel, you’re already supporting local food makers, and when you choose one of our partner pickup locations, you’re also swinging foot traffic through another door.

So if you want to check it out, come on in! And say hey to the lovely shopkeepers at our partner pickup locations. They might be hustling behind the bakery case or boba counter, but they’ll have your Pastel order ready to hand over, and they’re excited to meet you.

Meet Grace! Tea On Piedmont in Oakland

Grace Shen is the energetic owner of Tea On Piedmont, a cafe that opened in fall 2021. She’s known for her matcha and hojicha lattes and fresh fruit infusions, as well as supplying tea leaves behind the scenes to restaurants. She also features sweets from some baker friends you might recognize, including MackBox, Annie’s T Cakes, and Formosa Chocolates. Tea On Piedmont inhabits an elegant brick building on the corner with big windows that drink in the light, if you want to settle down with a cup of tea and watch the world stroll by.

Tea On Piedmont is at 4098 Piedmont Ave in Oakland, and Pastel pickups are available on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1 to 3:30pm.

Meet Natalie! Always Yours Bakery Cafe in Castro Valley

Natalie Wong launched a successful macaron business, wrote two cookbooks, kickstarted nearly a hundred thousand dollars, and opened her own bakery cafe — all before turning thirty. Always Yours opened doors in late 2021, revealing a space covered in floral wallpaper, plush boba buddies, and a hot pink neon sign that reads “treat yo’ self.” The menu serves macarons, panna cotta, and soufflé cheesecake, and a young crowd swings through for K-pop fan parties and to play with the claw machine. But they’re not just cute, these are some of the best macarons in the East Bay, also featured in the afternoon tea set at Malaya Tea Room.

Always Yours Bakery Cafe is at 20634 Rustic Drive in Castro Valley, and Pastel pickups are available on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1 to 3pm.

Meet Joy! Beastea in Santa Clara

One-woman show Joy Nguyen runs her boba shop solo these days. If a customer isn’t sure what they want, she’ll ask what flavors you like and mix something up, and if a regular starts coming back, she’ll remember your usual order. In addition to milk teas and fruity flavors, she also has sweet strawberry, spicy mango, and creamy avocado smoothies. Located in that suburban Koreatown in Santa Clara, Beastea is a lush shop with a jungle wall and live plants. Hours run later in the evening to cover post-barbecue boba cravings, and Joy hopes to eventually put in a karaoke machine. In addition to Pastel pickup orders, this is also a pickup spot for the legendary pudge cookies from batch 22 bakery.

Beastea is at 2785 El Camino Real in Santa Clara, and Pastel pickups are available on Tuesdays and Fridays from 5 to 6pm.

Meet Jessica! Fancy Flavors in San Jose

Equally sweet to customers and her team, Jessica Banh has a special place and was the first to host Pastel. Fancy Flavors was our original partner pickup location, and it’s easy to love it. Tucked away in a quiet corner of a shopping center, it’s a pretty shop filled with pastels and plants. Where Jessica bakes adorable macarons, some based on cute characters, and packs big orders for parties, as well as supplying Teaspoon locations across the Bay. As long as you’re popping in to pick up your Pastel order, those treats could go great with an ube latte or honey-lavender lemonade.

Fancy Flavors is at 1645 Saratoga Ave, Suite 20, and Pastel pickups are available on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3 to 7pm.

To try one of these partner pickup locations, make sure you’re logged into your Pastel account. Look for that beautiful lilac box at the top of your screen, and use the drop-down menu to choose a pickup location.
