Think of us as your friend who’s headed into the city. Can we bring you back something tasty? We’ll be in your neighborhood! Here’s the step-by-step for using Pastel:
💌 Create an account by entering your email address and zip code, which will recommend the pickup location nearest you. Once you’re in (woohoo!), in that beautiful lilac box at the top, use the drop-down menus to select either a pickup location or delivery and date.
🥐 Go shopping! Browse delicious menus from small and local food makers, which change week to week. For the inside scoop on new makers, new items, pop-ups, and specials, keep an eye out for our emails. And if you get treat overwhelm (it happens), check out hot shopping tips on the Purplelist, our publication.
🍜 Keep in mind, you can bundle items from different makers. So instead of running around and getting noodle soup from a restaurant, croissants from a bakery, etc, you can get all of your favorite items bundled into one Pastel order. Boom!
🗓️ Mark your calendar: Preorder three days in advance for pickup or delivery. So specifically, order by end of day Tuesday (11:59pm) for that Friday, or end of day Saturday (11:59pm) for the following Tuesday. Planning ahead supports small businesses, because they can make exactly the right quantity, without wasting food.
💳 Checking out, you’ll notice our fees. Most of our food makers pay a sustainable 10% commission, unless they prefer another payment structure, while our customers pay a 20% surcharge on every item, plus a $5 delivery fee on your order. That’s in contrast to other delivery apps, which take as much as 30% from restaurants, while customers are charged fees that can add up to 40 to 50%. (Just take a look at your last food delivery app order and tally up those fees.)
➕ Even after you’ve placed an order, you can still add to it! Forget to grab extra noodles? Spot a new cookie you can’t live without? Even if you place multiple orders, so long as they're for the same day and placed before preorders close, we'll bundle them together for pickup or delivery and waive that fee ($5 for pickup or $15 for delivery).
❌ Need to cancel? You have to cancel before the preorder window closes. So specifically, shoot us a note by 6pm Tuesday for Friday orders, or by 6pm Saturday for Tuesday orders. After that, our makers will have already started cooking, and orders can’t be canceled.
💬 We’ll text you a confirmation when you place your order and a reminder the day before pickup or delivery. If you opted for pickup, you’ll get a text when the purple van actually arrives with your order. That text will also include the pickup address, to help you remember where you’re headed. If you opted for delivery, on the day, you’ll receive an email in the morning with an ETA, a text when the driver is a few stops away, and a text when your order has arrived.
🚐 Looking for the purple van? Most of our pickup locations are in parking lots. But we also have a few “partner pickup” locations! Partner pickup locations are small businesses that host Pastel pickups, like a bakery or boba shop, that have a physical storefront. Bringing in foot traffic is another way Pastel supports small businesses.
🐇 If you have any trouble finding us, text us! And if you’re running late, text us! Our drivers may be able to wait a few minutes or catch you at the next stop.
